Hello, I'm Jan Caerels: A Belgian SEO specialist, focusing mainly on technical SEO. I have been involved in search engine optimisation since early 2014. For five years, I worked at agencies as well as in-house. Then, in 2022, I decided to offer freelance SEO services. This mainly for large websites in the B2B, e-commerce and enterprise sectors. Today, I work mainly in-house at travel company TUI, and freelance for my own clients.
My expertise covers technical SEO in the broadest sense. You can rely on me for technical SEO audits, website migrations, crawl budget optimisation, loading speed and Core Web Vitals, and more.
I also offer web analytics and dashboarding as a service.
This website migrated in December '22: new domain, new platform, new URL structure. Due to the lack of an SEO migration, SEO traffic collapsed. Fast forward: 6 months later, I became involved in this project. A comprehensive recovery plan was drawn up, and today this website has more SEO traffic than before. An interesting success case, with one big learning. Even 6 months later, it is valuable to rectify a failed SEO migration.
This website's SEO traffic dropped to almost zero after a migration gone wrong.
After recovery, SEO traffic grew higher than what the old website had.
I share my technical SEO expertise at SEO/digital marketing events and conferences. You might've seen me before at the SEO Benelux meetup in Ghent and the SEO Benelux conference in Antwerp. In April 2025, I spoke at BrightonSEO (UK) about .htaccess for SEO. Would you like to offer a technical SEO topic at your conference and are you still looking for a speaker? Take a look at some of my possible topics:
Transparency: some of these cases involve projects from my agency period at WiSEO.
SEO Peeps is an online game to test your technical SEO knowledge. The idea of the game is simple. As a tech SEO specialist or developer, you have to find 20 hidden keywords with a technical analysis of the website. For each of these 20 keywords, there is one tip to get you started. For instance, one tip will lead you to Pagespeed Insights, and another hint recommends inspecting a piece of HTML. Each keyword unlocks one person (Peep) from the international SEO community. The game is over when all 20 keywords are found.
